In Vista, in collaboration with Empower TCT, brings an international workshop to Rome: "The Foundations of Stress Management."

The workshop brought together parents, therapists, educators, teachers, and representatives from public institutions, who participated in an afternoon of training characterized by a practical, interactive, and deeply engaging approach.

The workshop was far more than a traditional lecture. Through interactive exercises, group discussions, and shared activities, participants were actively engaged, practicing stress regulation techniques and reflecting together on the everyday challenges faced by those who care for others. One of the workshop's central messages was that stress is not always the enemy. It is a natural response of the human body that, within healthy limits, helps us stay focused, learn, and respond effectively to challenges. However, stress becomes harmful when it accumulates beyond our ability to manage it, affecting our physical, emotional, and mental well-being. To illustrate this concept, Larisa Traga introduced the metaphor of the "stress bucket." Each of us has a bucket of a different size, representing our individual capacity to cope with life's demands. Every challenge, worry, or major life change adds water to the bucket. Without effective strategies to empty it, the bucket will eventually overflow, leading to emotional and psychological overload.

Among the practical tools explored and practiced during the workshop were:

  • fermarsi per qualche minuto e portare l’attenzione al respiro;
  • allungare l’espirazione rispetto all’inspirazione per favorire il rilassamento;
  • utilizzare esercizi di consapevolezza per riportare l’attenzione al momento presente;

Special attention was also given to the concept of the Circle of Control and Circle of Influence. Reflecting on what we can genuinely control—and distinguishing it from what lies beyond our ability to influence—is a fundamental step toward reducing stress and developing a more proactive, resilient mindset.

Another particularly meaningful topic was the power of changing perspective. Learning to view situations from different points of view often allows us to transform challenges into opportunities for personal growth, improving the way we respond to everyday difficulties.

An important message emerged throughout the workshop: stress is not always the enemy. Within healthy limits, it is a natural response of the body that helps us stay alert, learn, and cope with everyday challenges. It becomes a problem when it accumulates over time without adequate opportunities or tools to process and manage it.

Another key message that resonated throughout the workshop was that self-care is not a luxury—it is a responsibility. Parents, teachers, therapists, and caregivers can offer their best to others only when they learn to recognize their own needs and take care of their emotional well-being.

A heartfelt thank you also goes to the Fondazione ConTatto, which made it possible for families to participate by providing its vision rehabilitation specialists (tiflology professionals), who engaged the children in educational activities throughout the workshop. Their invaluable support allowed parents to take part in the experience with peace of mind.

I, Laura Tragaj, mother of six-year-old twins, one of whom is totally blind, and Founder and Editor-in-Chief of In Vista, had the privilege of moderating the workshop and providing simultaneous interpretation for Larisa's presentation, using my language skills to ensure that the dialogue was truly accessible to all participants.
